- Is it possible that we will see a Monkey Island 5 in the future or have you definitely closed the book on that franchise?
They are definately going to make Monkey Island 5 since it is their most popular franchise. However, we shouldn't expect it in the near future.
"So what we are announcing now at the show is only part of what we are really doing. In the next few months we are going to be announcing more stuff especially towards the later part of the year. Full Throttle is something that a lot of people internally wanted to build. Sean Clark in particular was excited to do a new Full throttle game. And it is something that fans have been asking for. Also, I think it’s a good franchise to try and help evolve adventure gaming, because the traditional point-and-click graphic adventure game is struggling in the market place. Something like Full Throttle can be a blend of adventure and action is really a nice way for us to try to experiment and move things forward."
"Andrew: Also, you guys have got a good mix of things like action and adventure, but I think a lot of the fans would like to know if you guys are still interested in doing the "pure" adventure games like Monkey Island again or--
Simon: I think it's... point and click graphic adventure?
Jake: Well, even more like Grim Fandango where you run around--
Simon: Well, Full Throttle [2] will have a bit of that. Full Throttle is going to be an interesting combination of action and storytelling adventure. I guess in some ways the original Full Throttle did as well, but the action was much more basic in those days. But yeah, we're going to be doing that and Mike Stemmle is looking at new ways of evolving the graphic adventure. Again, it's part of our heritage and it's something we're not going to give up on.
Andrew: And what about a new Monkey Island game? Are you guys interested in doing that still?
Simon: At some point in the future, there will undoubtedly be more Monkey Island games. No doubt about that."
"Don't worry about the action elements taking too much away from the adventure qualities, though. Tim reassures us that "there's a whole other side to the game with a lot more Grim Fandango-type puzzles involving characters and inventory all mixed together." In the game, you have the ability to slow down and look around at the world you are in. If you come across a huge obstacle, you can use your psychic action powers to defeat enemies. However, you also have the option of looking for less physically dexterous ways of solving puzzles. You can also talk to various characters to learn more about the story."
"We stopped by the Funcom booth yesterday and asked one of their PR staffers whether we will ever see a sequel to the Longest Journey. The Funcom representative smiled and simply said ' no comment'. When we pushed for more details, he said something along the lines of that they really want to do one and that we should not completely give up hope."
